WSOP Announces Another 34 Events on the 2019 Schedule

Slowly but surely, the schedule for the 50th edition of the World Series of Poker is coming together.
On Wednesday, another 34 events of the 2019 schedule were revealed as well as confirming that the big blind ante format will be used in every tournament where antes are present. In addition, the WSOP has announced a dramatic increase in starting stacks across the entire series.
Mainstay Events Added
Over the course of the past month, the WSOP has unveiled the 2019 schedule piece-by-piece. Back in December, they announced The Big 50, The Main Event as well as a number of schedule favorites like the Millionaire Maker and Double Stack. Earlier this month, another 13 events were added including a revamped Colossus and the Mini Main Event. Then, just last week, every tournament with a $10K buy-in or greater received a date, including the premiere of a $10K Short Deck event.
Wednesday’s announcement adds a number of mainstay events plus a new addition or two. One of the notable new additions is the “Bracelet Winners Only” event. The tournament, specific to the celebration of the 50th WSOP, has a “champion of champions” element to it as it is only open to previous WSOP bracelet winners. This includes every single bracelet winner dating back to 1970 through those newly-minted winners in 2019.
Other announced events include various tournaments at the $1,000, $1,500, $2,500, $3,000 and $5,000 buy-in levels.

Big Blind Ante Across the Board
In addition to filling out the schedule, the WSOP has declared that the big blind ante format will be used in every tournament that is played under the roof of the Rio. This includes bracelet events, Mega Satellites as well as their popular Daily Deepstacks.
The announcement goes in-depth on exactly what the Big Blind Ante is and how it impacts the game. The WSOP used the big blind ante on a limited basis in 2018 but “after careful consideration and study, and broader use, including throughout the 2018 World Series of Poker Europe” this will be the first year in which the popularized innovation will be incorporated into the full slate of WSOP tournaments.
Increased Stack Sizes
Utilizing the big blind ante is not the only trend that the WSOP is adopting. In 2019, bracelet event starting stack depths are getting a major overhaul with players being given more chips right at the onset of the tournament.
“It is important the modern day World Series of Poker continues to evolve,” said WSOP Vice President Jack Effel. “People certainly like bigger starting stacks, and we’re happy to oblige while simultaneously adding more value.”
For example, in years past, a $1,500 WSOP bracelet event would start with a 7,500 chip stack (5x the buy-in amount). In 2019, that same tournament will start with 25,000 in chips.
It is important to note that while the starting stacks are on the rise, structures for the series have not yet been released.
