‘Sheater’ Wins Fifth PocketFives Triple Crown
‘Sheater’ Wins Fifth PocketFives Triple Crown

Sweden’s ‘Sheater’ won his fifth PocketFives Triple Crown

For the first time in more than two years, Sweden’s ‘Sheater‘ won a PocketFives Triple Crown. And this one was a milestone, as it marked the fifth won by the longtime online poker player who is nearing $7 million in career winnings. And amazingly, two of his Triple Crown qualifying wins this time around came against the same player.

In order to score a Triple Crown, a player must win three multi-table tournaments, each of which starts within the same seven-day period across any three of the networks tracked for the PocketFives Rankings. Each tournament must have a prize pool of at least $10,000, at least 100 players, and have a real money buy-in. Satellites do not count.

After not recording a win in an online MTT since March 13, ‘Sheater’ came back with a vengeance. On April 4, his Triple Crown quest began with a win in the 888 Crocodile for $5,200 and 146 PLB Points. The $160 buy-in tournament generated a field of 161 entrants and had a prize pool north of $21,000. ‘Sheater’ beat ‘ractigons7‘ heads-up and, incredibly, members of the PocketFives community raked two-thirds of the prize pool.

One day later, ‘Sheater’ took advantage of the popular Heavyweight series at PartyPoker by winning the network’s Heavyweight Drago for $2,900 and 113 PLB Points. The Drago carries a $109 buy-in and fetched 128 players. Crazily enough, the Swede once again beat out ‘ractigons7’, the latter of whom could have had two legs of a Triple Crown in his pocket had the cards gone the other way. And once again, members of the PocketFives community raked two-thirds of the prize pool.

On April 7, his Triple Crown quest was complete with a win in the Hot $33 on PokerStars. The tournament had 987 players – nearly 1,000 – and, as its name suggests, sports a $33 buy-in. ‘Sheater’ earned $4,600 for the win and defeated Romania’s ‘ramondemon77‘ heads-up. Perhaps more importantly, a win in the Hot $33 meant his fifth PocketFives Triple Crown was secure.

“It feels good to get my fifth Triple Crown,” ‘Sheater’ said. “My game has been up and down. I’ve had a few scores, but had many losing days too.”

Here’s a look at Sheater’s Triple Crown runs over the years:

August 18, 2013 – William Hill, PokerStars, Unibet – 624.80 points
October 20, 2013 – PokerStars, Full Tilt, PokerStars.fr – 956.33 points
November 5, 2013 – PokerStars, Full Tilt, William Hill – 884.17 points
January 5, 2014 – William Hill, 888, PokerStars – 450.18 points
April 7, 2016 – 888, bwin, PokerStars – 432.11 points

His latest Triple Crown marks the first time he has won a leg on bwin or PartyPoker. It’s just the second time that a tournament on William Hill has not appeared in his list of victories, and it’s the 64th Triple Crown all-time won by a player from Sweden. It’s the 20th won by anyone in 2016.
