PokerStars Reveals Complete NJSCOOP Schedule With $1.2 Million GTD
PokerStars is giving online poker players in the Garden State something big to look forward to.
On Friday, the online poker giant revealed the complete schedule for the fifth edition of their New Jersey Spring Championship of Online Poker with $1.2 million in guaranteed prize money.
The 2020 PokerStars NJSCOOP is taking place between April 11-27 and arrives with an expanded schedule of 48 events. Each of the 48 events features both a “High” and a “Low” buy-in, making for a total of 96 individual tournaments, a significant increase over their 41 event offering of 2019.
The schedule has just about everything an online poker grinder could ask for. Of course, it comes with a healthy dose of No Limit Hold’em. But players of all games can find a tournament to circle on their calendars with Pot Limit Omaha, Seven Card Stud, Eight Game, and additional Omaha variants sprinkled in over the course of the multi-week schedule.
Main Event Modifications
While PokerStars is increasing the number of tournaments, they have actually pulled back when it comes to their Main Events. As in previous years, the series will culminate in a pair of Main Events, one High and one Low, but for the second year in a row, players will see a reduction in the guarantee.
This year’s Main Event High has a $100,000 guarantee attached, down from the $130,000 guarantee of 2019. That was reduced from the $200,000 guarantee of 2018. However, it’s not an ‘apples-to-apples’ comparison because along with the guarantee reduction, PokerStars has made the Main Event High a little more affordable, reducing the buy-in from $500 down to $300 this year.
The more attractive price point may, in fact, help funnel more players into the Main Event High. In 2019, when Anthony ‘FlawlessBINK’ Maio took down the $500 buy-in event for nearly $25,000, the tournament only drew 254 runners. This created an overlay of over $10,000 (excluding fees) for PokerStars. With the reduced Main Event High buy-in, PokerStars is going to need 357 players to avoid an overlay, but they will also have an easier time qualifying players.
The Main Event High is receiving a guarantee and a buy-in reduction, the Main Event Low is just seeing a reduction in the guarantee. The tournament will stay at the same $50 price point from the past but will be reduced from a $40,000 guarantee down to a $30,000 guarantee.
Qualify For The Main
For players in New Jersey looking to win their way into the Main Event this year, PokerStars is again offering a number of ways to get in for cheap. The cheapest way is the 30 seat $300 Main Event High guarantee freeroll for players who make a new deposit.
Additionally, the online site is offering a special NJSCOOP edition of their popular three-handed $3 Spin & Go’s between March 31-April 26 where the top prize will award Main Event High tickets.
