PokerStars Releases 2020 WCOOP Schedule, 75 Events, $80M Guaranteed

One of the most prestigious online poker series of the year returns as PokerStars has officially released the complete details for its 19th Annual World Championship of Online Poker.

Running from August 30 through September 23, the 2020 WCOOP will feature 75 events each with their customary three buy-in levels (Low, Medium, High) creating a total of 225 tournaments in all. Also, the series boasts nearly $82 million in total guaranteed prize money which amounts to more than $6 million than was promised back in 2019.

The series is anchored by the 2020 WCOOP NLHE Main Event, which provides one of the richest online tournaments of the year. This year, the WCOOP Main Event will take place on Sunday, September 20, and play out over four days. The three-tiered buy-ins ($55, $530, $5,200) each have aggressive guarantees with the Low promising $1.25 million, the Medium hitting the $2 million mark and the High Main Event sporting a series-high $10 million guarantee.

While the majority of the series is played out as No Limit Hold’em, PokerStars also uses its ability to provide players a wide variety of games. In addition to a Pot Limit Omaha Main Event, players are offered title shots in nearly every discipline the online site has to offer including Limit Hold’em, H.O.R.S.E., 5-Card Draw, 6+ Hold’em (Short Deck), Omaha 8, Razz and Stud Hi/Lo among the 17 games on the schedule.

There will be plenty of bonuses available during the series as well. In addition to a $100,000 Player of the Series competition (the details of which have yet to be announced) players can win their share of the $1.5 million WCOOP Sweepstakes.

When a player enters a WCOOP tournament, they will receive tickets to the sweepstakes. The higher the buy-in, the more tickets a player will get. During the series, six players will receive a ticket to the $25K Sunday Slam Super High Roller, which takes place on Sunday, September 6, and features a $2 million guarantee. Plus, on every day of the drawing, three players will receive $5,200 Main Event seats.

After making its debut during the Stadium Series, PokerStars has also announced that this year’s WCOOP will feature daily cards-up coverage on its Twitch channel. Fans can expect to see James Hartigan and Joe Stapleton, joined by an array of guest commentators, showcasing the action from nearly every event throughout the entire series.

Another feature making its way from the Stadium Series to the 2020 WCOOP is the Fast Track format, which allows players to qualify their way from smaller buy-in events to the $5,200 Main Event for a fraction of the cost.

All of the action begins on Sunday, August 30 as five events take place, including the opening ‘Phased’ tournament which will play down to a winner on the final day of the series.
