Poker Pros Put “Money” To Work On Mayweather-McGregor Megafight

Mayweather or McGregor? The entire sports world will come to a standstill this Saturday night as the once-in-a-generation boxing talent of Floyd “Money” Mayweather puts his perfect record at risk against the biggest superstar the UFC has to offer in “The Notorious” Conor McGregor at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

With a fight – nay, a spectacle – of this magnitude, there is plenty of money flowing into the Vegas sportsbooks from those looking to get some additional “action” to the action inside the ring. It’s the kind of big money event that many in the poker community look to take shots on, so we surveyed the #pokertwitter landscape to find out where the edge seeking pros are hoping to place their bets and pad their bankrolls.

David Williams, the 2004 World Series of Poker runner-up, is not alone in hoping to put it all in on Mayweather. As of Friday morning, Mayweather was a -550 favorite (different bookmakers may offer different odds). In poker terms, the sportsbooks are declaring this fight to basically be an AcAs vs KdKh all in preflop scenario.

That’s a situation poker pros, like 2015 Super High Roller Bowl champion Brian Rast, are looking for all day, every day.

According to ESPN, at the Westgate Superbook, while MacGregor was way ahead when it came to the number of bets (twelve wagers for every one on Mayweather), Mayweather has a huge edge on the average amount of the bets being placed (over $8,000 for Mayweather vs. roughly $212 for MacGregor). In fact, it’s been reported that there have been multiple million dollar bets being placed on Mayweather.

Not everyone in poker is on the May-train. Fintan ‘EasyWithAces’ Hand, PokerStars Online Pro and prolific Twitch broadcaster, can’t help but back his fellow countryman in McGregor.

Although, Hand tweeted that he wasn’t planning on putting any money on the fight.

That’s not to say there is not big money being put on McGregor, in fact quite the opposite. As of Friday night Vegas was still at a “seven-figure” liability should McGregor pull off the upset. (Or the conspiracy theories of a “fix” so the pair can run-it-thrice come to pass.)
