Nelson Robinson – 2011 WSOP Poker Player Profile

Nelson Robinson began Day 7 of the 2011 World Series of Poker Main Event in seventh place with a stack of 6.42 million, but quickly grew his arsenal of chips. Most of his newfound ammunition came courtesy of Tri Huynh, who bet 300,000 on a flop of J-10-6 after Robinson checked. Robinson moved all-in over-the-top for 3.52 million and, despite the massive overbet, Huynh called, having Robinson covered.

When the cards were exposed, Huynh held J-10 for top two pair, while Robinson was behind with K-Q for an open-ended straight draw. The Winston-Salem, North Carolina native didn’t need a straight to survive the all-in, however, as a running Q-K gave him a better two pair. Robinson shot up to nearly eight million after the all-in confrontation and seemed poised to make a run at the November Nine.

However, Robinson bowed out of the Main Event in 33rd place after his A-3 could not overcome the A-Q belonging to Aleksandr Mozhnyakov.

Earlier on Day 7 of the 2011 WSOP Main Event, Robinson’s run nearly hit a stumbling block when he doubled up Gionni Demers with A-J against A-Q. Demers hit two pair on the flop and, while Robinson spiked a jack on the turn to make matters interesting, the river was a brick and Demers’ two pair was strong enough to take down the pot.

During his WSOP Main Event run in 2011, Robinson was a scant 25 years of age and owned seven in the money finishes on WSOP and Circuit felts for nearly $30,000 total. His largest haul was worth $12,000 and came after final tabling a $1,100 No Limit Hold’em poker tournament during the WSOP Circuit’s stop in Atlantic City, New Jersey in December 2010.

The top eight players in the 2011 WSOP Main Event will score seven-figure paydays. Despite not making the November Nine, Robinson claimed his largest WSOP cash to date. Talk about freerolling!
