Kevin Saul (BeL0WaB0Ve) Wins WSOP Circuit Foxwoods Main Event

In 2007, Kevin BeL0WaB0VeSaul (pictured) won the $10,000 Bellagio Cup III, cashing for over $1.3 million. On Monday, Saul recorded his first significant win since the Bellagio Cup, taking the crown in the World Series of Poker Circuit Foxwoods Main Event, beating 614 players to claim a $194,178 first place prize.
Those of you who have been longtime members and readers of this site should instantly recognize Saul’s name, or at least his BeL0WaB0Ve screen name. One of the most prolific online tournament players of all-time, Saul was a fixture of the PocketFives Online Poker Tournament Rankings when they were first launched.
He won a PocketFives Triple Crown in 2006 and again in 2007 and achieved the worldwide #1 ranking on two separate occasions. Saul actually hit a slump in 2007, but rekindled the fire the following year, winning the Monthly PocketFives Leaderboard race in August 2008.
After achieving that accolade, he told PocketFives, “Poker was finally fun to play. For the last seven months, it took on more of a job role than a hobby. Poker is my job, but working can be fun. It feels like a hobby when you are enjoying yourself.”
He looks like he is enjoying himself as an online poker player turned live pro now. With his Foxwoods win, he has earned almost $2.6 million on the live tournament circuit.
Saul entered the final day of the tournament just 13th out of 16 players, but was able make his way up the standings to go into final table play with a fairly sizable chip lead. His 2.6 million chips were about 700,000 more than his next closest competitor.
He took some hits at the outset of the final table, doubling up Bobby Corcioneand then folding in a couple of big pots to drop under 1.6 million chips. He was soon able to get his revenge on Corcione, though, rivering a diamond flush while holding Kd-9d against Corcione’s Ad-As. Despite facing aces, Saul was the aggressor in the hand, three-betting all-in with a lot of draws on a 6d-8d-7s board. Corcione was eliminated soon after.
After eliminating Cory Waaland in third place, Saul went into heads-up play against Lall Bharatwith a lead of 7.675 million to 4.625 million. He continued to grow that lead throughout the one-on-one match, eventually amassing a giant stack of 10.4 million. On the final hand, Bharat moved all-in pre-flop for 1.9 million with Ks-5s and Saul made the easy call with As-Kd. An ace on the turn clinched the hand and the victory for Saul, giving him his first ever WSOP Circuit ring.
After the victory, congratulations came pouring in on Twitter for Saul(pictured), a very popular player in the poker community. Adam A_Junglen Junglen Tweeted, “Grats. Always thought highly of your game.”
Victor Ramdintold Saul, “Way to go @BeL0WaB0Ve. I never had any doubts when u said u were going to win this one… Congrats!!” And Jason JCarver Somerville chimed in, “@BeL0WaB0Ve congrats buddy. I hope it’s just the first of many this year for you #saulcrushing.”
For his part, Saul Tweeted a sigh of relief: “Waited 5 1/2 years to get back in this winning circle, feels so good. Thanks everyone for your support.”
