Giuseppe Pantaleo – A Passion for PLO
Giuseppe Pantaleo – A Passion for PLO

Pot Limit Omaha, or PLO, has become by far the most popular way to play poker other than No Limit Hold’em. The ‘four card game’ as it is known has prompted established poker operators such as the PokerGO Tour to host festivals such as the PGT Mixed Games Series, the Super High Roller Bowl in Mixed Games and this week’s PGT PLO Series.

One player who has grown to love Pot Limit Omaha at the same rate as it has mushroomed in popularity is the German PokerStake player Giuseppe Pantaleo. We caught up with him to discuss his love of the four-card game and why he can’t wait to get back to the felt to play it.

Making the Switch

“The last two years I’ve been playing more and more PLO.”

Speaking to Giuseppe about playing professional poker is a fascinating look back over several eras of the game. Having cashed in events from the EPT Main Event in his native Berlin back in 2010 – Giuseppe finished 142nd for €7,000 – the former NLHE obsessive began playing PLO right away, but it wasn’t his initial focus.

“I’ve been playing PLO for 15 years on and off. I would always dabble in it, but I didn’t only play PLO,” says Giuseppe. “I played No Limit tournaments for a living for 15 years. The last two years I’ve been playing more and more PLO and dedicating my time to mostly PLO cash games. I’ve severely downgraded the time I spend playing No Limit tournaments.”

Having made a change, Giuseppe only envisages more PLO in his poker future as opposed to No Limit Hold’em.

“I think the switch has already happened,” he concedes. “It’s going to shift more and more into PLO and away from NLHE tournaments. I’ve basically started to be all-in on PLO.”

Pot Limit Omaha and the Growth of the Game

Many poker fans will know Giuseppe from his 2018 WSOP Tag Team bracelet victory with the Game of Gold star Nikita Luther (above). His success in that event won him and Luther $87,902 each. But Giuseppe has since really become known as a PLO powerhouse.

In 2025, more and more players play PLO than ever. Giuseppe believes that the growth of the four-card game is good for poker in general. He isn’t totally convinced that it has grown enough, however.

“I don’t really know where the numbers come from, but its three times more [popular] than before. Maybe the NLHE numbers decreased. They’ve been saying PLO is the game of the future but when I go into the casino in Las Vegas only two or three cardrooms have PLO games and every room has a NLHE game – No Limit is still very much dominating!”

The future of PLO and the increase player numbers is something that Giuseppe feels passionately about.

“I hope it can change but it doesn’t look like PLO will ever be more popular than No Limit. Hopefully it gets more and more people wanting to play it so the game can grow! I don’t know what one person or we as a community can do to gain popularity in the PLO streets.”

Pushing for Success in PLO

Giuseppe only sees his own involvement with the game of PLO growing over the years to come. He has big hopes for his development in the game.

“My ambitions are to become a very good and successful PLO player, in cash and tournaments! Hopefully the work I put in will show in some results in the near future.”

It could easily be argued that they already are. With $2.19 million in lifetime earnings, Giuseppe has had big recent results in PLO, winning $30,660 when he came eighth in the Pot Limit Omaha World Poker Tour WPT World Championship in December.

“I’m pretty excited to play in the PGT PLO series this week,” Giuseppe says. “I will start playing the first $5,000 events – the first three probably – and then go from there!”

With strong recent results in Pot Limit Omaha, as well as a love of the game, and a keen determination for it to grow you could hardly back someone better. Giuseppe’s dedicated staking page on PokerStake has all his upcoming events and how much he is selling to each event, including his markup.
