You may or may not have noticed, but a rather major sporting event kicked off this weekend in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Next weekend 888 Poker launches their own series of events and rather than gold medals, players will be chasing cash and points in the 888 Poker Summer ChampionChips.

Consisting of 18 different events running August 14 – 21, the Summer Champion-Chips is a series geared towards recreational players hoping to score big. The buy-ins range from $1 to $55. Each of the 18 events are named for an Olympic event.

The Summer ChampionChips Main Event runs Sunday, August 21 with a $30 buy-in and a $50,000 guarantee.

Starting Monday, August 8, 888 Poker is running free qualifiers that guarantee 50 seats to each of the 18 SCC events. Each qualifying event is restricted to 2,000 entrants and opens 30 minutes before it begins. The free qualifiers stop running on August 13 – the night before the Summer ChampionChip begins.

Step qualifiers are also already available in the 888 Poker lobby under ‘Summer ChampionChips’ tab’ under ‘Tournaments.’

Every player who plays in a SCC event can earn points on the Summer ChampionChips Leaderboard. The top 200 players at the end of the SCC win a prize with the overall winner taking home $1,000. The top 100 finishers earn a cash prize while those who finish between 101 and 200 will earn a 888 tournament ticket. Points for this leaderboard are calculated and awarded in real time.
