Danny Sepiol Trifecta II July 4th
Daniel Sepiol won the WPT Alpha8 Trifecta II Event for $672,200, the second biggest score of his career.

The latest World Poker Tour Trifecta event took place at the Wynn Las Vegas this week and it was Daniel Sepiol who won the event, claiming the $672,200 top prize. There were 108 entries in the $25,000-entry event, as the second of three high roller ‘Trifecta’ events thrilled poker fans in Las Vegas.

Another Bumper Field in Alpha8 Event

The reigning WPT World Champion Daniel Sepiol took home $672,200 for the biggest score of his career outside the $5.28 million he won last December for taking down ‘the big one’ in WPT terms. This week already saw 78 players take on the opening Trifecta event, where Brock Wilson won the $571,400 top prize.

In the second of three Trifecta events held in the beautiful Wynn Las Vegas cardroom, an even bigger field of 108 entries was welcomed for Event #2, with each seat costing $25,000 to occupy. By the close of Day 1, just 19 players were remaining, but still the money bubble hadn’t been reached, with only 14 players making profit.

Leading into Day 2 was Brandon Adams, with the popular High Stakes Poker cash game player marginally ahead with 2.15 million chips, with Mikita Badziakouski on 2,135,000. Other highflyers such as Samuel Ju (1,895,000), Dominik Nitsche (1,890,000), Adrian Mateos (1,765,000) and Chino Rheem (1,635,000) all hoping that Day 2 would be their day.

Adams Falls, Sepiol Rises

Brandon Adams went into the final day certain that he’d finish inside the money places. While he did so, it wasn’t the result he wanted, as he went from being the chip leader with 19 left to out in 14th place for $48,000. He was shaken by losing a big pot to Daniel Sepiol to relinquish the chip lead and spiralled to defeat thereafter.

Adams may have been left cursing his luck, but there were plenty of big names who left before the money places. The WPT Champions Club members Darren Elias, Nick Schulman and Nick Petrangelo all left without making any return on their $25,000 entry fees, while the 2024 Poker Hall of Fame nominee and WPT Honors inductee Isai Scheinberg was also unable to win money for taking a shot in the latest Trifecta tournament.

Sepiol had started Day 2 in the chasing pack but after taking down Adams from his position as chip leader, Sepiol grabbed the lead and would not relinquish it again for the remainder of the event. The prizepool of $2,581,200 was battled for between some terrific players and before the final table took place, stars such as Adrian Mateos (13th for $48,000), Stephen Chidwick (11th for $57,000), Dominik Nitsche (10th for $67,000), Samuel Ju (8th for $86,000), Christoph Vogelsang (7th for $111,000) all made a profit before bowing out.

Cohen Can’t Comeback

Down to the final six, Ukrainian player Igor Yaroshevskyy crashed out in sixth place for $144,000, before the popular American player Chino Rheem, who has performed so well on the tour after speaking with us about his recovery from addiction , also departed, ousted in fifth for $189,000.

Next to go in the event, which forms part of the 2024 Wynn Summer Classic, was Sam Laskowitz, who won $250,000 after busting just outside the podium places. It was an all-American final duel when the Belarussian Mikita Badziakouski was eliminated in third place for $335,000, as the man who now sits in fifth place on the All-Time Money List on The Hendon Mob fell just short in the fight for the title.

Sepiol Heads up
Who fancies playing Daniel Sepiol heads-up for a title these days?

Heads-up, Sepiol was the winner, relegating his fellow American Jonathan Cohen to a runner-up finish worth $450,000 as Sepiol claimed $672,200. He also received 16 points towards his eventual finish on the WPT Alpha8 Trifecta leaderboard, with Sepiol earning an additional five points for cashing in each of the first two Alpha8 Trifecta events.

Only the top eight players on that leaderboard at the conclusion of the events will win a $10,400 seat into the WPT World Championships in December and with Sepiol sitting at the top with 28 points, the race is now on to join him. The third and final WPT Alpha8 Trifecta event takes place at Wynn Las Vegas on July 10 and 11. Who’ll top the lot and claim another massive six-figure top prize?

We can’t wait to find out.
